The Dubai-based carrier cites exponential demand growth as the key driver behind its regional network expansion, with plans to further increase capacity in the coming years.

Emirates SkyCargo has introduced a new freighter stop at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) as part of its continued expansion in the fast-growing Southeast Asia region.

According to the airline, the new call adds to its existing 10 freighter destinations across East and Southeast Asia, meaning 25% of all 43 freighter destinations in its global network are now located in the region.

The Thai government has made significant investments in innovation and advanced technologies, with the country “emerging as a world leader in next-generation automotive, smart electronics, medical and biotechnology, robotics and more,” Emirates SkyCargo noted.

In addition to high-tech products, the airline expects to transport garments and stone fruits on the new route.

Southeast Asia’s importance in global air cargo has grown rapidly this year as U.S. trade policy has led manufacturers to shift operations away from China to other countries in the region, which have become key beneficiaries of this trend.

Badr Abbas, Emirates SkyCargo’s Divisional Senior Vice President, said:

“Our operations across East and Southeast Asia are among the most expansive on our global network — from flight frequencies, freighter deployment, and available capacity to gateways served. However, the demand is exponential, and therefore, the region will be the foundation of our expansion plans through 2026 and beyond.

Markets such as Thailand and Vietnam are becoming the new heartbeat of global trade, with modern manufacturing capabilities, evolving digital economies, and world-class logistics infrastructure. We do not see demand slowing and stand ready to support the region’s growth with the quick, reliable, and efficient movement of goods worldwide.”

The carrier has also increased capacity in Vietnam, now operating four weekly flights in and out of Hanoi, three of which connect directly with Dubai, while one includes a stop in Taipei.

In Guangzhou, Emirates SkyCargo now operates six weekly calls to meet high demand from mainland China, mainly consisting of consumer tech products, electrical goods, and e-commerce shipments.

“To ensure stable capacity during peak periods and seasonal demand, Emirates SkyCargo frequently deploys ad hoc freighter capacity across the region,” the airline added.
