The Swiss forwarder handled 564,000 tons of air cargo in Q3 2025, up 7.2% year on year, even as net turnover dropped 5%.
Semiconductor demand and investments in cloud infrastructure helped Kuehne+Nagel (K+N) sustain higher airfreight volumes in the third quarter of 2025, despite lower turnover and profitability.
The company reported 564,000 tons of airfreight handled during the quarter, up 7.2% from 526,000 tons in Q3 2024. However, net turnover in the air logistics division fell 5% to CHF1.6bn, compared with CHF1.7bn a year earlier.
Air logistics gross profit decreased 6.9% to CHF404m, from CHF434m in the third quarter of 2024. K+N said that airfreight yields had come “under heavy pressure,” noting that “Q3 2025 was challenging for the entire airfreight industry, which also affected the profitability of Kuehne+Nagel Air Logistics.”
In recent months, the company expanded its airfreight network by adding new gateways in India, Canada, Italy, and Spain, and completed the acquisition of Asian freight forwarder Apex in the fourth quarter.
Overall, Kuehne+Nagel Group’s total net turnover for Q3 2025 stood at CHF 6bn, down 6.8% year on year, while gross profit dropped 3.7% to CHF 2bn.

K+N announced a cost reduction program aimed at saving CHF200m annually, involving staff-related adjustments, facility optimization, and other variable measures.
Chief executive Stefan Paul said:
“Despite very challenging market conditions, Kuehne+Nagel was able to gain market share through targeted investments in key areas. With the launch of group-wide cost reduction measures, we are now taking action to safeguard our cost base. Challenging external factors are forcing us to sustainably and permanently improve our efficiency and performance culture. Keeping high quality levels of customer service remains a top priority.”
